Phase 1

The goal of Phase 1 treatment is to intercept a moderate or severe orthodontic problem early in order to reduce or eliminate it. Phase 1 treatment takes advantage of the early growth spurt and can reduce the need for extractions or surgery in the future.
Separators | Spacers Little rubber bands placed between teeth to create space to fit a band around the tooth.

- Expect discomfort for the first couple days.
- Take whatever you do for a headache to help with soreness.
- Avoid chewy/sticky foods.
- Do not floss in areas with separators.
- Check every day to make sure all separators are still in. If you notice any are missing, please call the office during regular business hours.
Quad Helix, TPA, Hyrax or Pendulum An expander used to widen upper arch to make room for permanent teeth.

- Expect discomfort for the first couple days.
- Take whatever you do for a headache to help with soreness.
- Speech may be affected at first.
- Take small bites and chew slowly and thoroughly.
- Avoid chewy/sticky foods.
- Brush appliance when brushing teeth.
- If appliance comes loose, please call the office immediately.
- Please call if tongue becomes sore or you see redness/inflammation.
- Avoid hot dogs, fresh bread, stringy cheese and peanut butter until comfortable with eating.
- DO NOT PLAY with appliance with fingers or tongue!
Lingual Arch Usually used as a space maintainer until all permanent teeth have erupted.
